An RV Transporter is responsible for the safe delivery of customers units to their destination. This can be to a dealer, an individual, an auction, or even to areas ravaged by mother nature in order to provide temporary housing for those affected.

As an RV Transporter, you will be under DOT Rules & Regs the same as any trucking company. Although a CDL may not be required, you will still keep a log book, pass a physical examination, submit to a Pre-Employment Drug Screen, as well as follow the same rules and regulations of a commercial carrier.

A common misconception is that one only needs to have a truck and they can begin transporting commercially. An RV Transport company must be set up the same as a trucking company in order to transport commercially, legally. This includes obtaining your Carrier Authority, Cargo Insurance, Liability Insurance, Non-Trucking Liability Insurance, UCR, BOC-3, and in some instances State Permits. This often explains why some transporters seem to have an extremely low rate, as they are not operating legally by not meeting the requirements of a commercial transporter, or having to absorb the overhead.

This doesn't mean that you can't work as an RV Transporter, it means that to work legally you only need to contract to an RV Transport company. As such, you are essentially working under their authority and insurance.
